Sippy Sunday Sake

I got out of bed at 10:00 today!  Granted, I was lying in bed reading, but still.  That means my morning green smoothie happened at about 11:00 a.m.

Before heading out on a ski I fixed up some curry sauce from Delightfully Raw (using macadamia nuts instead of cashews).  I dumped a little sauce over kelp noodles and assorted chopped veggies, then put the whole mess in the D.  When we arrived home starving, a deliciously warm lunch was awaiting us.

(I think I let my sunflower sprouts go to long; however I've read mixed reviews about if this is okay or not.  I'm still eating them, long tail and all.)

It seems that I've started a wee Sippy Sunday Sake tradition.  I've mentioned how I stopped drinking wine Mon.-Fri.  However, on Saturday and/or Sunday I usually imbibe in a bevvie.  Today I made:

Blueberry Slushies
1 16 oz bag frozen blueberries
juice of one lemon
1 cup sake
1/4 cup agave
dash of vanilla
dash of salt

Blend above ingredients until slushie.  Share with three other people (or not).

Dinner tonight, as usual, is a giant salad (head of romaine, sprouts, sauerkraut, tomatoes, carrots, mushrooms, hemp dressing from Delightfully Raw).

TH is having raw Hawaiian style pizza with a smaller salad.

Question:  How was your Sunday?

Kamoebas and Kale Chips

I was starving after work today, and was so excited because I knew I had crispy BBQ kale chips waiting for me in the D.

For some reason I didn't think they were as good as the last time I made them, but that didn't stop me from scarfing down three bowls. Whenever I eat kale chips I have an inner conversation with myself that goes something like this:

"Okay, this is the last one."
"I mean it, no more after this guy."
"Hey- how did that get in my mouth?!"
"Oooh, look at all the seasoning on this chip!  I wonder how it tastes."
"Mmmm. Crispy."
"Better see if this one's as good."
"Nope- kind of gross.  I need one more to leave a good taste in my mouth."
"Seriously!  This is the last one."

I washed down my head of crisped kale with a Kombucha.  The kamoeba (I think the real name is scoby?) was impressively large in this bottle.  I hate it when you bravely attempt to drink a kamoeaba in one gulp and it tries to escape your mouth, suctioning itself all over your chin in the process.

My other eats today looked something like this:

(smoothie, curry pate on cukes, Raw Food Real World's buckwheat cereal w/ raisins and hemp milk)

Next up:  a huge dinner salad and, or course, a piece of banana cream pie.

Question:  Do you eat or drink anything that others find revolting?

Want Me to Make You Some Raw Noodles?

This morning I hopped out of bed to play with my Cook Help.  I made a whole mess of noodles to top with various sauces for lunches this week.

green pepper, carrots, zucchini, squash

I also mixed Cauliflower Curry from Delightfully Raw with kelp, squash, and carrot noodles.  I didn't think it was saucy enough to soften the kelp noodles, so I dumped some Cheezy Hemp Nacho Sauce on top and gave everything a good mix.  I left the dish in the D at 105 for a few hours while we went on our ski.

When we came up we were able to warm up with what I am calling Spicy Cheezy Mac, because it reminded me a bit of mac'n'cheese, with a kick.  TH enjoyed it as well, but did not agree that it tasted like mac'n'cheese.  Whatevs.

I had just made another batch of Caramel Sauce #2 from Sweetly Raw's Just Desserts, so I added a little water to Viv, let her run on high for a bit, and then went all gaga over the resulting warm frothy caramel "milk".  Yummm!

Hope everyone had a gorgeous weekend!

It's not dark until after 4pm!  Yay!!

Question:  Have you ever spiralized any unique veggies to make raw noodles?  I need ideas for what to try next!

Weird Hippie Dishes

I was never really a cooked pizza fan.  It might all stem from the day long ago when my sister puked in Pay 'n' Save after eating at Pizza Hut.  The image of miles of gooey, greasy mozzarella encasing the shelf of Barbie corvettes is permanently etched in my memory.

Raw pizza, however, I do enjoy quite a bit.  Without all that cheese you can actually taste the separate flavors.  This evening I pulled out one of my frozen crusts and topped it with tomato sauce (leftover from the zucchini pasta dish), cheeze, spinach, and finally veggies and olives marinated in nama shoyu, olive oil and garlic.  A brief stint in the D and mmmmmm.  It may look like one of those weird hippie dishes, but it's the real deal.

All pizza ingredient recipes from Delightfully Raw

I made TH a vegan cauliflower slow cooker curry that smelled amazing.  (I adapted the recipe from here).  This also looks like something I would have been embarrassed to bring to lunch in middle school, but TH likes it.

My evening chocolate fix (brownie from The Raw Dessert, coconut whipped cream from Delightfully Raw):

I went a little big on the coconut whipped cream
Question:  Does anyone have any good slow cooker recipes?  I don't eat much cooked food, but I love to throw a bunch of random ingredients in the slow cooker and come home to lovely smells in the cabin. So much easier than cooking for TH after work.
