If My Cabin was on Fire...

....I would grab this lemon meringue pie.

It may come to no surprise to some of you rawnjas that this recipe is from Sweet Gratitude.  This pie has me licking up every last crumb and dreaming of more.  The sweet/tartness of the center pairs perfectly with the coconut macadamia nut crust.  The texture of the lemony layer is remarkable; identical to a cooked lemon meringue pie, I might venture.  This is achieved through Irish Moss manipulation, which used to intimidate me.  Now I brag about how awesome I am and wonder what life was like B.I.M.  (Click here for helpful Irish Moss prep instructions.)  I think this might be one of my all time favorite desserts.  TH says he likes richer, more chocolatey pies better, but that's crazy talk.

A sunset shot of our slick, icy, windblown, bum-busting land.  The icy sheen produces awesome dusk shadows.

Question:  What's the yummiest thing you ate today?

  1. Wow, that is an awesome sunset photo.

I am with you on the irish moss adoration. However, I'm a little stuck with Sweet Gratitude because I don't own a food scale and their irish moss specs are all by weight! I bet I could wing it successfully, but haven't yet done so. I have tasted that pie at Cafe G back when I lived in Berkeley, though, and it is scrumptious.

Phil and I shared a bit of durian after dinner: that's probably my top yummy of the day!

Oh, Ela, I totally wing it with the Irish Moss. I don't own a food scale either, so I guesstimate- so far so good!

Where in the heck did you get durian in AK???

Hi Kelly! I am totally infatuated with the pie. I hope I don't have to make another when it's gone.

Looooove raw pizza. I haven't tried buckwheat spouts yet.

  5. I want some of that pie--ok, I want the whole pie
Yummiest thing I ate today was my sprout salad. Large bed of my own sunflower greens, topped with clover sprouts, fenugreek, buckwheat crispies, cherry tomato, a few mushrooms and some raisins. The dessing was a sweet dijon I threw together.

  6. Fantastic sounding salad, Elizabeth! When you say sunflower greens are you talking about sprouts?

  7. No, I mean sunflower greens. Soaking the black seeds (shell on) and then once a tiny root pops out planting them onto potting soil. In 5 days or so you have lush, beautiful sunflower greens. Sunflower sprouts, or sprouted sunflowers are shelled seeds you soak and in about one day you have seeds that have sprouted a tiny tail--they are done!
I use to call the greens sprouts but then realized it could be confusing b/c so many people sprout sunflower seeds (no shell).
Now I am getting confused--I am tired, time for beddy.

Thanks for the clarification, Elizabeth. I looked up sprouts vs. greens after your first post and now I want to make greens. They look so beautiful.
